The fairgrounds is the one I went to. Seems like a lifetime ago.

I barely even remember it. The fairgrounds is a pretty big area, and I don't even remember where they were set up to have any overcrowding. Maybe the fire marshal just had it out for Panic because he shut down one of their shows at a bar the year before as well.
And I jsut looked and they didn't play the amphitheater on campus in 91 or 92. Not sure who I'm thinking of but there was a big concert there at the start of fall semester one of those years that I missed. May have been Drivin N Cryin.

So you just said how the only reason you were able to pay for Greek was through active duty but yet said how broke every other person was in your frat. Then went on to say what I quoted. Either your whole frat was active duty (never would believe) or some daddy money was used.
You mean the other kids that waited tables, worked at Jiffy Lube, were house boys, worked off shore all summer and saved their $? Those kids who weren't in the military?
Honestly, though, I would guess that about 25% of the kids' dues were checks paid by dad. I lived with the treasurer for a year so I saw them pay. About 75% were paid for by the kids. It was cheaper to live in the house than dorms or apartments actually. The meal plan at the house was the exact same price as the dorms, they matched it up every semester.
Again, I'm not saying we didn't have the media portrayed rich kid, because we did, but that was small minority of the kids. Most of the 18-21 year olds I knew in fraternies just wanted to meet people and have some fun and just get through school like everyone else.

Wow thank you for your perspective. So it sounds like not much has changed. The main thing is now there are a lot more out-of-state students. There are a ton of OOS kids who go to Bama solely to join Greek life. My friends in the fraternities at least are good people and I never noticed they changed around different people. But it does seem that some frats have more a-holes, not sure how that happens.

Because they are a social group the same as any other social group, and like attracts like.
Sometimes people try and paint them as some sort of monolith and make sweeping generalizations. But as most people will attest, they are separate groups of people associated through similar interests.
