Don't want to think about it. I have an eight plus year old Golden Retriever laying next to me on the couch.

Couldn't agree more, if they are suffering though it's what you have to do.
My PET will be 38 in March and will probably outlive me.

Do vets allow you to euthanize pets at home, on your own, or do they have to do it, and at the office?
Depends on the vet. Mine came over this morning, and helped end my dog’s pain. He was an 11 year old lab that had the softest fur I’ve ever felt. He was beautiful and sweet, and everyone loved him. I’ve been crying for two days. Chinhoyang’s cartoon on the first page of this thread brought the water works right back. I miss him so much already. I work from home...tomorrow will be the first day my guy won’t be next to me while I work, and I honestly don’t know how I’m going to do it.
Mr. Personality, I’m so sorry for your loss, but I’m grieving right along side you. I wish I had more to offer outside of sympathy, and hoping each day gets a just a little easier than the next.

I wish we would have put ours down. She was of champion bloodline on both sides, daughter of an absolute champion.
That in and of itself, spells a shortened lifespan, and in many cases, complications during life.
She was very healthy and lived well beyond expectations.
That said, she suffered tremendously in the end, and it was painful to see her degradation.
Very painful.

It’s gut wrenching-I’m so sorry for your loss.

Pets love you unconditionally...
There is not much of that around...

I went thru this last year. So sad they aren't sitting beside you and you can take a minute, get up and get in the floor with them and just enjoy. Sorry for your loss.

I cried like a baby last April when I had to put down my 10 yo German Shepherd. She was fine one day and gone the next due a tumor rupturing that we were unaware that she had. I got through the next day ok, but having to tell my 3 yo son that his best buddy in the world wasn't coming home might have been tougher than petting her and talking to her as she passed.
