I only asked how likely would it be for an accident to occur. I did not assign blame. I don’t drive fast in curves by the way. This save a guy’s life late one night in the 80s. He was passed out drunk in the curve.
As to my other post about ‘moving over’, reread my posts. That was not me.

In that case, pretty low. If someone is driving at the correct speed around a curve, even a "blind" one, they should have plenty of time to stop because it will be designed that way.

26 mile round trip for coffee?
I don’t think so. 26 miles for exercise or the joy of riding? Yes, absolutely.
When you finish your drive home from the supermarket and realize you forgot an item, that’s a bummer because at some point you’ll have to crank the car up again and go get it.
When I experience this on my bike, I’m sentenced to more fun on my bike and, ultimately, better health.

Show me where shoulders aren't part of the interstate system. In every state of the union. You really don't know what an interstate system is.
Also, if you can't read, then that's your issue. In Colorado, as shown, cyclists are allowed to ride certain parts of I-70 shoulder. You want to say it's not a law, go ahead. If cyclists are want to commit suicide, in your terms, then no sweat to you, right?

Ah, here it is. The "ima lump ALL cyclists into one group" response. Spandex mafia, LMFAO.
Yes, every Lance Armstrong wannabe that is on the roads I travel is lumped into one group, because they ARE ONE frickING GROUP. The definition of a group is... um... they are grouped.
They have no regard for traffic. As they struggle up a hill 2-3 wide, they could give 2 shits there are 20 cars behind them.

If they're 2-wide they're following the law in pretty much every state in the country.

Shoulder are not designated travel lanes. No one calls a 2 lane road with shoulders a 4 lane road. That would be as retarded as riding a bike on an interstate.

Damn, its right there in front of me, concrete_tiger. You must be a big ol baddass contractor. Hey, pour some fricking bike lanes. Again, not every GROUP of cyclists are in the same group. Semantics, figure it out.

They should get back on the sidewalk with all the other children and toys where they belong.
Who thought it was a great idea to put thousands of bikes on the roads with 2 and 3 ton vehicles? Bikes who commute at 15 miles per hour next to cars that are averaging 30, 40 mph.
It's insanity.

I’m not trying to argue with anyone. I thought I made a fairly innocent attempt to compare city vs rural concepts of distance.
The nuisance comment would hold true if it was my best friend on his tractor moving to a new hay field. I’m sure you’ve gotten behind someone you thought was moving too slowly.
When I say people drive too fast out here for cyclists safety, I’m stating their are people who drive really fast on these narrow two lane roads. I did not say I am one of them. I will not get my side-by-side on the highway when I go to a neighbor’s house. I ride in the ditches because of the travel speeds of some in the area. My side-by-side will go 50+ mph. I’m not safe if I do. Riding the ditches is not possible for road cyclists.

quote:yea! The geezers in my town do a 45 mile coffee ride every Thursday morning.
26 mile round trip for coffee?
quote:I know. And I'm not bustin' your balls man. It was a general comment. My only point is that riding a bike for transportation is way more practical than most people think. That's all.
My comment was simply to express the differences in distances one experiences in an area where bike lanes are appropriate and distances I travel for the same service.

I guess we could do this all day.
So now you move the goalposts.
They are in Colorado for cyclists.

quote:It seems insane because you have it backwards. Everything else was on the street long before the invention of the combustible engine. Ffs children used to play in the street safely for thousands of years, and then cars happened.

Rule of thumb: The car is always the one in the way.

No, we can't. That's why you ignored my comment about designating numbers of lanes of roadways.
quote:

They are not counted as travel lanes in design or designation. A law saying a bike can ride on them does not make them a travel lane. You're trying for a semantics win, but you won't get it. Shoulder are not designated as travel lanes.
