Generally, I agree with you, but two issues:

1. Work hookup relationships that are non-discreet and spontaneous DO happen. At my office, a threesome was discovered in a conference room that had been repurposed as storage.

2. You described “oilfield baws” and included “making $40k per year”. That would be more rare than drop-dead beautiful woman proposing sex to midget wrestlers.

You would be incorrect. I was just trying to skip over all the details.

Our medical school class was 50% male/50% female.
About 200 of us. Of the 100 guys, at least 50 of them were socially awkward and another 25 of them were overweight or not good looking at all. That left the couple dozen guys who stood out to the nurses.

I always felt that I was average looking in high school and college. In good shape and tall - but average looking. But put me in a white coat and give me power to make decisions, things change. (I am sure it is the same for police officers, military, pilots, etc)

So for the 2 dozen of us guys who were in shape and normal to talk to - there was always flirting going on while we worked. Remember, overnight call - means you are going to the ER, the labs, the imaging suites, and at least 3-5 different hospital floors. That is a wide net of women because 25-30 years ago, all the nurses were women.

We spent 36 hours straight in these hospitals then went home for 1-2 nights and did it again. These nurses felt so bad for how hard they were working us and we treated them like friends and had a great time with all of them. You have to make fun when you work in crisis all the time or you will get burned out.

You would know which ones were potential candidates (usually the ones getting closer to 40 and in good shape) because they always hung around you while you worked and brought you coffee and laughed at everything. Her unit floor was the floor you chose to take your nap on that night.

When flirty nurse came into your room and asked if you needed anything - all it took was a witty line to get one last giggle and it was “go time”.

(As an aside, this never worked with the really young and hot nurses - the 23 year old ones that were hit on by every person they met. Those were the ones that flirted with you but wanted to marry you. One of them even invited me to her Labor Day family lake event and promised to show me her smallest bikini at the lake. (I was already dating my wife by then).

Like I said several times - it would not work in 2023. The doctor/nurse ratios are not the same, neither party is in as good of physical shape as they were, and people can’t keep their mouth shut anymore.

If you don’t believe what I am saying was happening in the 80’s and early 90’s - you either are too young to know or you are not wise enough to put facts together.
