There are plenty of articles out there explaining why backing into parking spots is safer. Here is just one:
Slate Article
Another article pointed to the fact that it is much more common in other countries. Backing in takes longer on the front end, and Americans generally must have instant gratification. So that is why we don't do it as much compared to other countries.

I look down my nose at people who don't back their trucks into parking spots. Those poor bastards.

The real reason people back in is because most states require only a front plate.
So wrong...on so many levels...you get a 19 out of 50 score.

I don't disagree but I understand trucks doing it. Never when there are a shitload of spots though.
Well, those spots may be full when I leave.
Think, people. shite.

It's SOP for a lot of oilfield hands that drive company trucks. Sorry you don't know this and are among the poors
Truth. You can also spot someone new to the industry when they don't back in. Even most of the women at our field office back their vehicles in whether it's a truck or compact car. Just the way it is in the oil patch.

I agree 100%. Given the number of downvotes, it appears that the OT is chock full of a-hole back-in parkers, which makes total sense. I would have expected such on the OB, but apparently the OT is overrun too. I can only imagine the idiotic justifications that will be seen on the responses.

Don't people parallel park in the city streets?

Unless you are driving a freight truck or some other large commercial vehicle and need to either unload or pick up something, there is typically no reason why you should have to back into a spot.
I always back into parking spots. That way when I'm ready to go I just pull straight out and I'm on my way. I never knew this was an issue for some people.

However, if you are driving a damn SUV, sedan, or pickup, and are trying to back into a spot in a parking lot with, at minimum, 50 available parking spots (the majority of which have no vehicles next to them) and thereby block other vehicles seeking to go around you to merely pull into a nearby spot, then you are just the most self-centered, near-sighted, and nonsensical jackass on the face of the planet
I'm normally on a motorcycle. But I still don't see that your issue is here.

You would have to be a dumbass to not see that backing in makes more sense than driving in forwards regardless of what you drive.
