Running up credit card debt that you can't pay off or have parents who can and are willing to pay for it?

I don't know, man. I've wondered this myself. I wish I could have afforded to figure it out. I had no choice but to just get my shite together.

Loans, parents, or loans from parents.

Stop thinking about it. Some people may just have more money than you, you don't know their savings habits or if they are even paying taxes.

I have no pretense about it. I fully admit I was just trying to put off workaday adulthood a little bit longer.

Only thing I was really trying to "figure out" was how many eurotrash girls I could get in the sack.

I took a year off after undergrad. Not to "find myself" or anything. I just wanted to frick off.

They aren't figuring anything out. They're just avoiding growing up.

Most of the time the money comes from their family. Sometimes, they take out a shite load of student loans (above and beyond what is absolutely necessary) and piss all of that away (then cry about having to actually pay it back with interest). Finally, some do work. Save up their money and then blow it all on the trip. They had a great life experience, but don't have a dime in savings in the event one of life's bad experiences hits them once they return home.

Frankly, I couldn't care less what others do with their money. Just don't ask me for mine after you spend all of yours and we will get along just fine

That's just the nice way of saying "I'm going on a long as frick vacation to party and have no responsibilities." sounds like paradise to me.

I have no issue with someone saying, "I'm not ready to deal with shite right now and want to take a long relaxing vacation." Even if I don't think one may deserve or need it, at least you are calling it what it is.

How does one "deserve" vacation?

I have one scheduled in August and want to make sure I have all of the prerequisites.

My sentiments exactly. If you want to take a break, more power to you. However, don't pretend you are doing something that other people actually are stressing over.

I was a wreck my last year of undergrad because I knew that I did not want a career in my current degree in any capacity. I needed to "figure it out" prior to graduation or take a year off of school to put things into perspective.

Turns out I didn't need the year off... but the fact remains that action must be taken even with a vacation.

guess to me it's more the mindset of a person in one of these situations. If I was unemployed for whatever reason or out of college needing to get my career going, the last thing on my mind would be taking vacations to 'figure it out'. I don't even know what 'figure it out' means? Isn't that what you've been doing the last few years in school??

Some people don't live by the mantra of go to school, immediately start a career, start a family, etc. You're young once. If someone wants to spend their early 20's roaming the world instead of sitting in an office, I don't see how you can blame them if they have the means.

Sounds like a lot of jealousy in this thread.

I took a year off after college. It had nothing to do with figuring anything out. I just wanted to explore and enjoy life before starting my career. I lived off of what I saved working while going to school, and did side jobs as often as I could. I also traveled with a few friends and that saved a ton of money.
