true. I will say the storm as bad as the loss of life was, it has been a net positive for the city. Other than the black on black crime being insane (as it always was) it's the best it's ever been.

I didn't know there was a real good chance the levee would break and the city would flood like it did. I don't remember that being a major threat then. Can you back that claim up? Not being argumentative, legitimately curious.

I don't either. All the models had the Mississippi river being the source of the flooding. We actually were flooded from the Pontchartrain and the MR go.

Yes. But I don't have the time to go get all the documents and articles. You can find the engineering reports and the reports from the inspectors.
Nola is and has been a very corrupt city. The levees were a symptom.

Katrina was fast moving and became a monster over night. By the time people saw it was a real threat it was too late leave.

How many of the levee engineers and inspectors did you talk to?
This wasn't a publicly known thing, it came out in the investigation into why the 17th breach happened.

Supposedly, the Feds have fixed things so no repeat of Katrina will happen again.
That said, I'd leave if a major storm was heading towards NOLA. And I wouldn't think twice about it.

spent a lot of time around a lot of those levees and near those flood walls and gates - no fing way was I trusting that stuff with a major storm.

Had one that lived right across the street from me, he worked for the Corps. We both had 4' of water in our homes.
I guess he just didnt care about losing his house and displacing his wife and 4 kids for almost 2 years that it took him to rebuild his house.
