I mean, yeah there is good food in LA, but there is good food everywhere. You just have to find it and be willing to try new things. LA doesn't have the monopoly on great food.

Also....you miss some of the foods that much....you can learn how to cook them and recreate them in your new home state.

Moving to Knoxville this year. We seriously can't wait.

I went there for the LSU game two years ago and I loved it. I could definitely live there.

Texas is great, but no way I'm retiring here unless they fix the property taxes. Forget paying $10,000+ a year in property taxes against no benefit of the lack of income tax

I don’t know if anybody else has noticed this, but I get the feeling that a lot of people are moving out of Louisiana and relocating to other states.

I'm a unicorn I guess. I had an offer in Dallas 10 years ago for 10% more

Most jobs in tX pay about 10% more than Louisiana. However, more opportunities to move up and increase salary fast. My wife had a 10% increase, but in 4 years doubled her salary she made in Louisiana.

I left LA after college for five years. My job brought me back to BR for a year-long construction project and I decided to get off the road and stay. I’m now married with two kids and my in-laws have moved here in the same town. I’d leave tomorrow if not for my wife’s parents being close to their grandchildren and a being big part of our lives. I’m close to being 41 and they are not getting younger, so that bridge will be crossed at some point. I do have a great job that I’m happy with, but I’d double my salary next week if I were to leave.

I grew up in Monroe, have family in Shreveport, loved in BR, and now reside on the Northshore. I can say without question that this is the only place I would live in LA today.

My job pays 10-15% less than I'd make in Texas. Double my salary would be attainable in NYC or SF.

Property taxes for retirees are much lower in TX because you don't have to pay a penny for the school part.

We don't pay not even close to 10K in property taxes, I think $5600

housing cost has driven out the young lately. Tech companies pay very well. The techies drive up housing.

Fires nowadays too.

That seems to be common. My daughter pre K class has 5 out of 12 people from Louisiana. Couple remarked more family is moving to TX, but it took 3-4 visits to see the quality of life difference to make the move.

We moved to Tennessee close to Nashville 4 years ago. I used to be one who said I’d stay in La, but after being gone for a while, I wish I’d done it sooner. La is corrupt as hell
and there is just so much crime and murder. The weather is better here, the money is better, the land is hilly and beautiful and you don’t have to watch your back nearly as much.

My grandmother lived behind Howell Park golf course in an old white neighborhood. Hers was the last house in the row and on the other side of her it was full blown ghetto. There were gun shots almost every night I stayed there. I also spent a few years in an apartment complex on North Ardenwood as a lad when my parents divorced. Compared to BR, the ghettos around here are pretty nice.

I’m moving back after living in college station for 7 years. I’m taking a 40k paycut...likely will have to pay to send my kids to a school as good as where I was...

But I’ll be in a spot that understands the seasons....and appreciates culture more than here.
