He probably works in purchasing.

Those are some of the most misrable fricking people in the workforce.

Not having any success with those buyers, eh? We aren't miserable. We have the world by the arse in a downhill pull- most of the time. We just get tired of sales people's bullshite. Some of you guys are really bad. It gets old quick when you get solicited all day long.

I'm in outside sales. My calls from customers during non-working hours are not that frequent. Most of them understand that calls at that time are for emergency type situations.

That said, I do think about work way too much and dream about it every now and then, especially with big presentations in the next few days.

I've never thought about going into sales, it seems like too much of a grind. I guess I've convinced myself that work isn't about money. Doing what makes you happy, what interests you intellectually, seems much easier if both of those are money. I should probably value money more...come to think of it, I've never sold anything as part of a job. Nothing.

Good luck. Was in sales for 10 years. Grew to hate it, the constant "what have you done for me lately" attitude of the employee and the buyers made me want to kick my dog(s). Finally got out, and will never (Hay-zeus willing) ever get back in sales. I HATE sales with every fiber of my being.

It takes a special person to be successful at sales. Either a sociopath or someone extremely good at developing relationships. I'm fairly good at the latter but found I had to fake it too often and it doesn't appeal to me. I took a job in Oct. as Sales Director of a company and jumped to Ops when an Ops. manager position came open.

I agree with that. I too am now in Ops and love it. It's nice to be able to do a good job, work hard and actually "feel" as if you are rewarded/appreciated for doing a good job.

You don't have to sell something concrete to sell. I'm sure you've sold your boss or colleagues on an idea or what not.
