Funny that your explanation also provided the solution.
It’s tragic if you live out here. Such simple things could do so much good for everyone but nooooo we can’t do that because we’re held hostage by the progressives. It kills me that the people that trumpet how much they want to protect the earth and our environment do such much damage to it with their policies. They don’t care either because it isn’t about conserving the forests or our water. It’s about power and control to them. Freedom is their enemy.

mean, if that makes you feel better I guess.
If this fella is doing it, it’s a safe assumption that others have as well. Desperate people with almond milk a’plenty.
I couldn't care less, it doesn't make me feel anything. I just live in Louisiana and see people doing stupid shite all the time. Dumb people are just dumb.

douse everything with salt water to ensure NOTHING can grow there ever again.
In this emergency situation, that may be the best idea. California is fillee with a population that can't keep it stable as it is. (Agriculturally, that is)

I don’t understand this thinking. Replacing the piping is cheaper than rebuilding thousands of homes and businesses. Even then there are steps that can be taken to mitigate corrosion. With all the tax revenue California pulls in they could easily retrofit the infrastructure to handle seawater or just pickle and passivate the systems after emergency use of seawater. One of the main services my work provides is pickling and passivating steel systems in plants all over the country.

Ah yes...that is a VERY good long term idea...douse everything with salt water to ensure NOTHING can grow there ever again.
They're using seawater in some cases, just delivered by plane.

Replacing the piping THERE would be cheaper. But where is the next there? You’d have to run fire mains, made out of nickel, or some other expensive metals. There is fiberglass piping, but the pressure ratings aren’t high enough. And then you’d need expensive pumps to lift the seawater and pressurize the piping. And you’d have to run pipes all up and down the California coastline. Also, it would require water treatment plants to inhibit marine growth.
I’m familiar with pickling equipment, and I’m extremely familiar with seawater lift systems and seawater fire fighting systems. I’ve been around dozens of offshore seawater projects, both for fire and seawater injection. I’ve personally specified and procured millions of dollars of valves, meters and other instruments and equipment for these systems, and I’m telling you there are no inexpensive solutions that will last. You can use fiberglass offshore because the pressures are low because the distances and head are low, but try piping this to the top of the Santa Monica Mountains.
Even if you tried this, it would not be practical once you are miles from the coast (and it’s not practical near the coast unless a very wealthy community did it as a local project.) People who have never lived or worked next to the sea can’t appreciate how corrosive that environment is.
