Ascension still does this. If you're not on free lunch and you don't have any money in your account they give you milk and a roll. I have no problems with it. These aren't free lunch program kids, these are people who just don't pay.
Uh, maybe 15 years ago. They're $3.75-4.25 a meal now.

Hell, my mom packed PB&J in my Star Wars lunch box for years. I still love them.

That isn't an acceptable answer.
Why should they be free for every student?

I would have paid extra for the PBJ sammich when I was a kid instead of the slop we were served.

Hell sometimes PB&J is better than some of the crap they serve kids in those cafeterias

'm sure the school district has the funds available to pay for the lunches.
Oh good. Someone with your dumbass line of thinking showed up.
The school district has tons of hoarded away money. They choose to keep places in disrepair, not fund programs, etc... They just want to hoard their money

So they prepare your lunch, throw that away and make you a sandwich. Extra ingredient and labor cost prob doubling the costs to prove a stupid point.
Just don't feed the kid or secure a deposit of 100 bucks,
Also could partner w local food bank to find a solution.
Our educators are all about the drama

Easy fix, just don't give the deadbeats any food. The kids can thank their parents.

But why should any public school student be required to pay for a lunch? Shouldn't taxes cover that? It's not like they can leave and go somewhere else. They have to go to that cafeteria.
frick it. Why make them pay for anything. The school should pay for their school supplies and school uniforms as well. Hell, pay for their book bags.

You'd be surprised how much of a fricked up system school lunches are.

Any kid whose family can't afford to feed them is on free/reduced lunch as it is. This doesn't even apply to them. This is about parents who aren't paying that have verified they can afford it.

You very obviously have no idea how school lunches work. This "alternative" lunch is for students who have already used up this "deposit" and have a zero account balance. Most schools even let you float into the negative by up to $20 before they do this. This is literally nothing new.

This is the exact answer I was about to give. Parents should be responsible and understand that their kids are their responsibility and the effects that has on their kids!
