What a date in history. Sadly, patriotism is a thing of the past in America today.

I had a great uncle who was a career Navy man and was at Pearl Harbor during the attack. He was an enlisted aviator and retired after 30 years of service.
Never talked much about his experience till after I enlisted. I stayed the night at their house before going to Korea and he told me a lot about what happened and showed me his uniforms as well as some pictures of reunions he and the guys he served with had over the years.

9/11 faux patriotism didn't last a week before Democrats and the left started blaming America and complaining about jingoistic displays of American pride.

I would argue the biggest downfall of the post-9/11 patriotic mood was the pointless Iraq War. The patriotic mood reached new highs with Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” banner on the flight deck of that aircraft carrier.
Then the insurgency started, and we realized we were stuck in a quagmire and those WMDs never turned up.

My grandfather joined the Marine Corps the very next day after Pearl Harbor

My BIL’s uncle and a very close friend’s wife’s uncle (or older cousin) were both sailors aboard the USS Arizona and did not survive the attack - bodies not recovered and are entombed in the hull at Pearl. Both Louisiana boys - one from S LA and one from N LA - we don’t know if they knew each other as the ship’s crew numbered around 1,500.

If that happened today, the democrats would be cheering for the Japs.
This was the ultimate case of frick around and find out.

I pretty much experienced the same situation with my Dad. He served in Patton's 3rd Army during WWII. Didn't talk it much until I returned from a year in Nam. Then we both opened up & talked about our experiences.
