Yeah I mean if everyone in the world says it happened but one guy says it didn't, clearly the whole world is wrong, right?

I mean the guy that came up with the idea of going out and filming the PCH give aways back in the mid-'80s even said in a Forbes article a few years back that McMahon was never a part of Publishers Clearinghouse. So I gotta take his word on it.
quote:
At the time, Publishers Clearing House really didn’t make any real effort to correct this misconception. “It was kind of a blessing. It was free advertising since people thought McMahon was working for us,” says Sloane. “It certainly didn’t hurt us.” And as a result, the association between McMahon and Publishers Clearing House became an enduring myth. “It was the combination of the well-established company and the well-established spokesperson,” says Sloane.

Saw a commercial the other night. Terry Bradshaw is now the spokesman.

They are apparently real, but also they are more powerball winners than PCH winners. They are making money off of very poor people entering every day for 30 years. Or...something. That money doesnt make itself.
I thought it was free to enter. Yeah they have all kinds of ads/subscriptions/bs that you could sign up for and spend money on, but it's not required and poor people couldn't afford to do that for 30 years. I imagine it's mostly elderly people spending money.

He worked for PCH's competitor American Family Publishers.

They are a marketing firm, similar to lotteries.
