We ate at a nice Mexican restaurant last night here in Texas. Friendly table service - brought drinks and extra salsa when we requested. Just like old times.

It seems that the restaurants in question are doing far more than the bare minimum. In fact, it sounds as if they have bought in to the stupidity. That, or they believe their customer base has.
