If I had to guess it could be a shoring/re-shoring related incident either due to some failed steel column/beam connection or a lift accident.
At least up here a lot of shoring/reshoring contractors love to push the envelop in terms of concrete curing because time is literally money to them.
Good thought. Are the upper floors concrete or steel?

No idea. Someone mentioned steel earlier I think.

I think there was one in the Carrollton Shopping Center around South Carrollton and Palmetto. Had an A&G Cafeteria too I think. Late ‘60s?
I remember that shopping center. There was a Labiches, J.C. Penney, Radio Shack and down the street one of N.O.'s original sporting goods stores in Security Sporting Goods.
That shopping center is now the site of Costco.

Seemed like that was the whole structure.

I hear they are warning neighbors about being worried about further failure and possibly wider evacuation

I agree with you, but I imagine their decision to use Citadel as a contractor puts some liability on them.
holy shite can you read?
they (hard rock) are a franchiser and operator
they did not buy the land, design the building, finance the project or choose the contractor
when/if it is completed they will staff and operate the hotel for a fee (generally a percentage of revenue) plus expenses

Are they even the operator or just licensing the brands? Many (most?) hotels in the market have ownership, management and branding totally separate... and hard rock would legit just spec out minimum quality experiences for guest experience.

all of those thin concrete slab edges you see in the pictures that are bent over like slices of bread are the primary hazard. They’ll have to be individually removed

Didn't read. Betting they still get sued.
Don't be such a dick, bro. It's a bad look.

they grant the owners the use of the hard rock brand in return for a fee and an operating agreement. If in the future the owners decided to change operators they’d have to rebrand as well

Forgot about most of all those other stores.
Went to High School at St John Vianney on Palmetto
Haven’t been back in that area since the late ‘60s.
Man I’m getting old. Thanks for the memories!

I understand how these agreements work, I just wasn’t sure how this property/brand operated specifically.

They could get named I guess, but their liability is likely incredibly limited, if any at all
