I teach public. My kid currently goes to public, but once he hits middle school, he's going to private. Any teacher in the public school system that I know does the same thing -- heck, most send their kids to private from the start.

In my experience, private schools, at least in smaller towns, don't have the same quality teachers as public schools. They can only afford new teachers and, if they're lucky, retired public school teachers.

That's the dumbest thing ever. It could be that they see what kind of environment their kids would be going to school in and they know better. Odds are you never teach your own kid anyway, that is avoided if at all possible.

Y'all act like the decision to send kids to private school v. public school has something to do with the teachers.
My wife is a public school teacher, but I want my kids to go to private school. Not because it is a far and away better education, but because of the students she will go to school with, the kid's parents, and who went to school there before her.
I went to private school and my wife went to public. Our level of education wasn't that different. The biggest difference is the expectations. Private school, every kid is expected to show up, pay attention, do work, and go to college. For the majority, those requirements aren't negotiable. In public school, a majority aren't focused on college and their parents don't impose any structure in their education. They do whatever they want. It sounds bad, but I don't want my daughter hanging around that. I don't want her hanging out with people who have no future and their biggest goal in life is to get a job making $40k. I want her going to school with future doctors and lawyers.
The other reason is the built in network private school provides. I want her to get out of school, and if she needs a job, to be able to rely on her friend's parents to help network her into interviews. The other plus is she could rely on the school alumni network. You can't take four steps in the 19th JDC without bumping into a lawyer who went to Catholic High. Dunham, U High, and Parkview will catch up soon, and they will have a better alumni base. As someone who went to private school, you can't put a price tag on the ability to call your best friend's dad to help you find a job or having your potential boss go to the same school as you.
It has nothing to do with confidence in the education, it has everything to do with trying to put my daughter in the best position to exceed in life after high school.

Best of both worlds. Work for higher pay and send kids to be with higher percentage of kids similar to them- goals, behavior, etc.
