My husband and I don’t have parties like that. He cooks or grills and I make the cake. It’s family and some of the kids’ friends.

Here is what I learned from all the bday parties we threw for my son:

-they don’t want activities, they just want to hangout and play
-they don’t care about the food they like the cake/cupcakes
-they want to see the kid open his presents so they can talk about the gifts
-Bouncy houses are a huge hit

We never set a budget, but would have never spent that much. We did most at the house and rented a big water slide. As they got older we did a few at the bowling center and we'd take them and friends to movies.

We mostly concentrated on awesome cakes...which I made.

If it's summer, the water slide blow up ones are the way to go. The few parties I've been to with them, you had to drag the kids, old and young, off them.

I don’t know how much my wife spent on our sons first, but I found out she spent $125 on balloons that someone delivered.

My youngest is 11 and we spent about $100 on gifts, bought pizza, and made a cake. Maybe $200 altogether
My youngest is 11 also. $100 don’t buy shite from LEGO. I always pay the extra money and have the party hosted somewhere that’s not my house.
