Panhandler - Local vs. Carpet Bagger?

I have noticed a lot more Panhandlers in the areas I frequent and I have been giving to these people because I feel sorry for them as I assume they are victims of the flood. After giving to another one at lunch (there were 3 of them at Circle K), I wondered if these people came in from out of state to take advantage of people's generosity because of the flood.

I would play it safe and not give to them

I wish beggers would follow people home that gave them money like a puppy.

I don't give to any of them. There are a lot of resources for people to not have to big for money, more than likely they are taking your money and getting drunk. The reason they come around is because people give to them.

That's exactly my point. I have not given to them in the past but if they did get flooded out then I do want to help.

I told the local circle K that I frequent that unless they get rid of the 3 or 4 that are there every day, I aint coming back.

Post on the OT next time you feel like giving out free money, and see how many people show up. You really don't understand why they are coming by you?

Years ago I remember watching a segment on 20/20 or one of those shows about panhandlers. One of the camera guys waited for him to leave and followed him to see where he went (the story was about how many panhandlers are frauds). The guy had been going to a certain spot, near a street light, during rush hour(s). When he was done, the guy walked several blocks, got into a car (I forgot the type of car, it wasn't anything special, but it was a newer model).
He took off his hoodie and he removed his wig, changed into regular clothes then took off. A traffic light cycle is what? 3 mins? Lets say he gets $2 on each cycle, in an hour that's 20 cycles, at $2 a cycle that's $40 an hr. If someone did that 5 days a week for 3 hrs, a day, they could bring in $31,200 tax free..

Wife and I were out running errands a while back. Passed a panhandling group of 2 guys and a dog at the College & Perkins intersection.
About a half hour later we pass the same group at Siegen & I10.
No possible way for them to walk there - they have vehicles that pick them up and move them around in shifts.
If you don't give them anything - they will go away.

I always tell them i'll give them a dollar for directions to a nearby place. Then, after they give me the directions and ask for their dollar I tell them "They aren't the only ones that want something for nothing." and walk off

Some have handlers like hookers have pimps. Each handler will have 5-10 working for him

That's the key right there. Seriously, there are probably people who would not think twice about giving, but if they see the dog and the idea the person might need money to feed it.. they suddenly decide to give.

If people would stop giving panhandlers money, then there would be no panhandlers.
Guy came up to me Tuesday at the gas station on Florida by downtown with his military ID held up to his head saying that if I gave him 20 bucks he'd be able to eat all week. Obviously I can spot a crackhead a mile away and refused.
The guy at the pump next to me offered not to give him cash but to go in the store and buy him food. Of course Cracky refused.
Frick all of them.
