My beagle dog shite an unpleasant amount of nasty looking blood when I got home today. After doing some PetMD research it looks like it could be HGE? He is still drinking and eating, but seems a little lathargic. Should I not risk it and take him to the vet tonight? Or should I monitor him tonight and bring him in the morning? I'm hoping tomorrow will be fine as I don't want to pay the high vet bill to bring him tonight.

Wait until tomorrow?

If I still felt okay and wasn't in pain, then yes wait until the morning.

Take away his food immediately. And bring him to vet.
Probably nothing Pro-Pectalin and Pumpkin won't be able to clear up in a few days.

It was more of a dark red, closer to brown then bright red.

Bring him to the vet.
My first pug puppy years ago did the same thing. Came home from work one am to find him covered in bloody diarrhea and lethargic. Rushed him to the vet. He was dehydrated and needed IV fluids.

Perfect question....
Did he shite out a pod of dark blood from internal injury or infection, or did he blow half his a-hole open with a fresh hemorrhoid?
PS I would take the dog to the pet hospital now if it was mine. Although eating and drinking is a great positive sign.

Shitting blood + lethargy = not feeling ok and possibly serious. If it were my dog, we'd be on the way to a vet, but it's your call.
Edit: Not a vet, but know a little about human health...

I'm 99% sure your dog is dehydrated. I wouldnt wait until morning tbh. Kidneys etc can start failing in severe cases.

I don't think so. This was years ago though in 2002.
But yeah, I wouldn't mess with dehydration in a dog. Think how small they are...means it doesn't take much to make them seriously dehydrated. As a dog owner I love my dogs too much and would rather err on the side of being too paranoid than dismissing something that could be serious.

Update. I called and checked with the vet. They said if he has another stool like that bring him in. As for now if he is still moving around and drinking then bring him first thing in the morning. I don't know I'm thinking about just bringing him in tonight.
