There's not many options for a single person there, unless they want to buy a house. And houses are expensive as frick there. There's only a few apartment complexes, and they're old as shite and way over priced.

I was there last week. Stay in Liberty Park, pretty much spent every night in The Summit.
Flip Burger was really good. Seasons 52 was really good. Bar area was nice, and they poured some solid drinks. Went to Village Tavern one night and the steaks were huge. Really good. Primeau's Wine and Cheese for upscale wine was nice.
Pretty much all I can say so far. I'll be back there in 3 weeks for more work.

Vestavia is a nice part of town but you'll be doing a lot more driving to get where you want to go than walking. If you want to be able to walk around in a "downtown" like setting with lots to do, look around Five Points South.

Make me

Seriously though, the elevated road plan was a great idea. It would have significantly reduced traffic on that cluster frick of a road. But nooooo.....Brookies don't want an eye sore in their town.

It's alright. Just remember that "outlaw" does not necessarily mean "criminal".

I live here in Bham, love it. What part of town are you moving to? Lakeview is the cool bar area you will hangout in. Uptown is also making a move as a cool area.

I'm just fricking around. It would look like dogshit though, just saying. I haven't had to deal with 280 traffic in over 7 years though, so I'm the hatred has dwindled.

For places to live, I'd look at Homewood, Southside, Cahaba Heights, and possibly Avondale or downtown proper. The entertainment, restaraurants, and bars in the same areas are pretty good.
Bham catches hell from most folks here, but it's a good place to live and it's getting better.

As long as you stay in the right parts of town it's a really upscale and nice city. You've just got to make sure you stay in those areas.

You lucky bastard

My parents live off 280 and if I have to go over there after work, I have to get on 280. It sucked when I lived with them for a year (09'). I work downtown and had to leave their house by 7:05 to make it to work by 8.

Only in B'ham for a few months with no family, I'd try to find a loft rental downtown.
Avoid the 280/I65 drives if you can.

Exactly. Don't go farther North than Uptown. And avoid West and East Birmingham. He'll be fine.

Highland Ave is the place to be right now. Somewhat of the gayborhood, but similar to any "garden district" area. Being able to walk to and from the bars on the weekend in worth it IMO. I run up the mountain over to Mountain Brook and back. plenty of good lookin' gals running in the evenings too. Hit up 41st pub for a moscow mule. Moe's BBQ and Slice in Lakeview are cool spots. Avoid the Rare Martini and Nana Funks.
