buy you some of these and only use the resistance you need after you do them by yourself

what is stronglifts

simple yet effective strength plan. I don't actually start with just the bar because I've lifted intermittently for a few months but inconsistently. Basically my starting weights for week one were the most weight I can do for 5 sets of 5 reps and maintain perfect form without a spotter…my guesss is its 80% of my max for each exercise.

you focus on the main muscle groups-with two simple workouts…you can add "assistance work" in after your main lifts for that day but you don't need to add a bunch of other stuff. I mainly add abs and calf stuff at the end of the workout and some interval kettle bell squats sets more for cardio that anything else.

A workout

Squats
Bench
Bent Over Barbell Rows

B Workout

Squats
Overhead Barbell Press
Deadlifts

amazing how doing squats three times a week will make you feel like a BOSS

I have been looking at the insanity 30 minute program. Would this be similar? I have never done structured workouts like this, but need to lose about 20 pounds and get in shape.

you should have started lower around 60% and used 1.25 plates for the best results, you are going to have to reset soon but no biggie. also pretty soon you will have to drop to 3x5.

to the other guy, stronglifts is similar to starting strength. It is for thsoe just starting to lift or those that have been stuck at the novice stage or those that have never used compound lifts/squated. it gets you strong fast and helps build lots of muscle and if you follow the diet that does with it, you will shed lots of fat also. all only being in the gym 3 days a week for around 1 hour each time.

well I was just guessing. I have no idea what my true max is in any of the lifts as I don't have access to a spotter.

I'm probably between 70-80% of my max if I had to guess. it may actually be 60% but again, I don't know what My real max is. compared to what I used to lift when I was a gym rat, the numbers are paltry

I did Agility X last night as well. I am extremely sore this morning. As everyone else said, these workouts are very creative and your arse is worn out after 30 minutes. I am hurting a lot but still excited about my next workout this afternoon.

Did yoga x3 yesterday. Just like the 1st yoga, i found myself cussing out Tony because i couldn't physically do some of the moves. I'm just not that flexible. It was a good little midweek break though.

Today is the Challenge. I hear this one is pretty tough.

There are several ways to modify.
1) Use a pull up assist band. (Basically, a large rubber-band that you put your foot in to give you a little extra lift.

2) Put a chair in front of you and put your foot on it as needed. (The further the chair, the less it helps, so you canslowly ween yourself off of it.

3) Or, do what I do... come off the bar, rest for a second, then jump back up and keep going.

Also, you can use pull up bands, but that is more of an alternative way to do them. Not supposed to make it easier, unless you really dial back the bands.

You're talking about T25. Similar concept. The whole workout is crammed into 25 minutes. Very effective, but T25 didn't have as much resistance training. If you're only looking to loose weight or tone up that's probably a good one to do. I just finished it and my wife is doing it now.

Good advice, I did t-25 also. Think of it like a scaled down insanity which I have done also. It's more cardio based and not as much muscle building. Great for losing weight but don't expect to add much muscle mass at all. After t-25 my core was stronger then it has ever been but I have switched to p-90x3 to add more resistance training and see if I can build more muscle.

Insanity is a longer version of t-25 that is a good balance of muscle building and cardio based exercise.

P90x original is a muscle building program that includes some cardio. I didn't go back to it because I just don't have an hour to hour and half a day to workout since I have young kids.

If it were me I would look at insanity or p90x3 to fit your needs. I feel these are just better rounded programs to accomplish your goals of weight lose while still building some muscle.

Now that p90x3 is out its a no brainier to me that I am doing it now rather then t-25.

The only key about p90x3 is that since the workouts are only thirty minutes you really need to bring intensity and focus for those 30 minutes to achieve your best results. If you half arse it half the workout I wouldn't expect much since you only do a limited number of moves and reps.

I love the workouts but the one thing that bothers me is when I looked at the nutrition guide to get my calorie intake, it says a desk job is a slacker lifestyle???

WTF Tony?

Only in the sense that you don't move around throughout the day.
