I know some short term effects are muscle loss if you are not actively working out. I guess you have to weigh the benefits of being not fat + any side effects versus the benefits of being fat.

News flash! Any "diet" or significant caloric deficit will cause muscle loss. No matter what, if you're in a significant caloric deficit (>200-300 cal per day), you will lose muscle along with fat.

Ozempic is not causing the muscle loss.. the caloric deficit is!!

Saw a relative (cousin's husband) recently who suddenly wasn't fat. I asked him how he lost so much weight, he sheepishly said prescription medicine (I assume Ozempic)

This stuff has to be terrible for people. But alot of people seem to be taking it.

has to be right?

glad to get your medical opinion and glad you could share it with the board

if you dont mind...can you break down the pathways though that its terrible for you? i have a paper im working and need your expertise and links to the relevant research

i mean since you are so smart...shouldnt be hard right?

You can both be on Ozempic and not be malnourished.

yep....glp1's in general are anti-catabolic is nature, meaning they actually help preserve muscle.

but any diet that is too steep, doesnt prioritize protein and resistance training will cause an accelerated loss of muscle. any diet, medicine or not.

I have my own prejudices for people taking it. Most of which are antithetical to enjoying wellness, something of which I’m trying to work through with therapy.

But I don’t see how you can say it’s terrible for people. It’s helping people lose weight. I don’t like people taking a pill for weight loss, but those reasons are my own and deeply selfish and are going to require me to be introspective until I can get to the root of the why I have a problem with people bettering themselves if it goes against an arbitrary morality.

Correct. My work out partner has been on Wagovy for nearly a year. He's lost right at 40 lbs. We've also been working out avg 4 days per week and he's gotten significantly stronger!

People are trying to find ways to shite on it and reaching, alot.

this board is mainly louisiana folks..in general, their IQ or understanding of something is not very good

and I dont even have skin in the game, i dont take it and dont need to. but everyone isnt like me

just liek with most things here

1) people project big time and assign moralistic views to something or consider it cheating...like who the frick are they in competition with?

2) people are scared of being left behind because they cant afford something, so they shite on it constantly

3) they lack the intelligence to understand something or how it works in depth...so they shite on it constantly.

Count me as a success story. My weight was a little more than it should be and I had a hard time getting down to an ideal BMI. My blood sugar had been in the pre-diabetes range but one test recorded right in the full blown diabetes range so my doc put me on Ozempic. She felt that the blood sugar would come down if I could drop the weight, and sure enough, it worked! I was on Ozempic for about nine months before cycling off and have been maintaining my body weight and BMI, and my blood sugar has stayed in healthy range.

Hate me all you want, but the medication worked for me.

tl;dr I'm an Ozempic survivor, AMA

Good to know. I won't be taking it so I did not know how rare it was. But gastroparesis sucks big time.

I saw something on the news where a lady was throwing up constantly and just kept taking it. But if it is that rare the media did not point that it was a one off of course.

And people have died because they took too much ibuprofen

The one-off stories or very rare cases are what people are using to try and shite on it.
