OU freshman Joe Mixon was suspended last season for knocking out a white female. There was a video. Glad to see the university react so swiftly in his case. He is now able to begin participating in team activities.
Dorial Green-Beckham had allegations for violence against women. OU had no problem letting him enroll.

No, A public university may not expell students for speech
Unless it's determined to be legitimately threatening (which in this case I don't think it's a true threat or would be found to be by a court..that's from that link.
My point is that you cannot say literally anything you want with impunity on a college campus, which some people here are arguing, although the majority of speech is protected.

Well I'm reading the Washington Post article now. Rethinking my stance on this...

but what about that code of conduct rule?

You're argument it's a public university is naive at best. It's like saying the chancellor's admin assistant has the autonomy o walk in each day and says "frick you, you old wrinkle balled son of a bitch" and she's untouchable simply because she's employed by said public institution.
She is an employee saying that directly to a person. If she was a student saying that to while referring directly to another student or staff member, yes they could be suspended but if a student just said,"frick all old wrinkle balled sons of bitches" they could not. One would be harassment and the other is free speech.
Same as saying "hang a nagger from a tree" is protected speech but if you went up to a black person and said, "nagger, I am going to hang you from a tree" it would not be. There is a difference between a free speech and a threat.

No, it really doesn't.

I have literally not read any person in this thread arguing that.

why are these concepts so difficult for people?

I don't think you know what a 'strawman' means in the context of an argument.
Do you think a student has the Constitutional right to say, defame or slander someone, without being subject to university discipline?

Once again proving that simply saying the n-word is worse than knocking out a female!

The students are being booted for "your leadership role in leading a racist and exclusionary chant which has created a hostile educational environment for others.”
Does that language suggest that their remove is based on conduct and not the actual speech? I'm not a constitutional lawyer so, among those here who are, where is the distinction?

OU has all the discretion in what they now deem hostile, as would wrinkle balls when he fires fake admin's smart arse.
Just the way it is.

Amazing the lengths humans will go to, all because of the color of skin. Anything to separate, to alienate, to hate, and to individualize.
To think that skin color makes a human being superior, or inferior is absolutely insane. Yet highly educated people believe it to be true.
It is the way of the world, an ego controlled population of people. So much effort is put into being separate, apart from, unique, independent, better than, richer than, better looking, Stronger, faster, smarter, and more powerful.
The above explains exactly why we think we are here in this insane world.
It's ironic that in reality, there is no separateness, no individuals, and no differences. We have never been more than One, and never left our Creator.
We sleep, and we dream, mostly nightmares. There is no hope for this world, because it is only a projection of insane thought, produced by a tiny mad idea in the mind called the ego.
Everything is a mess, but all is well, the outcome is certain. Carry on my brothers and sisters.
