Also, for what it is worth, I have no problem legally with these guys getting expelled. This is not a free speech issue. No one has told them they can't stand on the street corner and tell every black person they see that they will never be a member of SAE. They just can't do that while also enjoying the privilege of a taxpayer subsidized public education.
However, it is also true that OU has set an interesting precedent here. When and if some black students get caught making racist statements or threats against white people - what then? Nothing? Make them attend racial sensitivity classes? Expel them too? That will be a powder keg...
The OU President appears visibly angry and is acting out of it. If I were him I probably would have done exactly what he did but stopped short of expelling them. Instead I would have revoked any financial aid they had, conditioned their continued student status on enrolling and completing some African studies courses, completion of counseling and community service hours with charitable organizations serving the minority community in really bad parts of OKC. If they left, their choice, but if they stay they are going to learn to represent the University in a more positive manner.

TIGERLEE isn't your boss, but here's a clue for you....you're fired!

well if OU won that argument, then i would shudder to imagine life on OU's campus
if you imagine all of the theoretical trigger words that are out there, then you have to accept the fact that if any student utters any one of these trigger words, then they face immediate expulsion
I told you when this broke that this whole thing by OU is a massive overreach into dangerous territory.

Should at least make it an A so people won't wonder why all the Bama fans have a Rutgers logo on their forehead.
My least favorite thing about Alabama but I'm not so naive as to think we have the monopoly on racists.

Exactly. And as SFP stated "hate speech" is so damn broad these days. This precedent could be used in the future to expel for extremely menial shite. I don't think it will happen as this was an extreme case, but it's there.

this was clearly an easy example of despicable speech. the system will not end here, though. life doesn't exist in a vacuum.
I don't disagree with any of this. I was just responding that in today's environment, this is open/shut.
I think that youtube video just posted should be quite interesting if any of those kids are OU students or on assistance, but then again, they aren't representing the school in some fashion.

There are some who say otherwise. What do you base this on?

That's the utilization of context clues to determine an opinion.
Racism would be me saying they CAN'T go to college due to their hue. Thankfully, I didn't say that.

I don't agree with this. If I wanna be racists that's what I'm gonna do. My education shouldn't suffer

I can say as a white guy I would not give a frick. The only problem I do have is the double standard. The n word is off limits because its racist but black people can openly use the term honky and cracker on tv with NO repricussions...and whites are labeled racist
There is no double standard. Nword>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> cracker and honkey combined. The Nword carries 300+ years of people being treated as if they were less than animals. Now if white people want to go through 300 years of slavery and being degraded in order for honkey and cracker to have the same sting of the nword then so be it.
