What are your overall thoughts and opinions on Chicago? Ignore any petty impulse, surface level opinions (ex: They are all Big Ten assholes! It's too cold! They are all democrats!)

Is it a worldly city with great universities (University of Chicago, Northwestern), parks (Grant, Lincoln, Millennium), food and dining, music, arts, and architecture?

Or is it more of a blue-collar, working man's city fed off Italian beef, Deep dish pizza, Chicago dogs, and blues music?

Or is it a city filled with gangsters, low-level crime, and corrupt politicians?

Is it always associated as New York's little brother?

How do you look at Chicago?

It's a fine city to visit and enjoy yourself (in summer), but it would take a king's ransom to get me to live there indefinitely. All of the violence it's associated with is easily avoided by staying away from culturally enriched areas.

One of the greatest places on planet earth in the summer for a person fresh out of college up to early '30's or so. I would want no part of it in the winter and I'd rather live in suburbia above the age of 35.

I lived in Naperville and Sycamore, but I really enjoyed the North Side. Stay away from the South Side. Now I will also tell you this, I'm 100% redneck and were many activities that I missed out on in the 4.5 years I lived up there.

Sadly, it never fails with the make up of this board.

Couple of good responses so far though.

Their earlier songs were the best. I liked "Does anyone really know what time it is" and "It's the most wonderful time of the year."

My favorite US city. I love it. Stay in the right areas and it’s awesome. Great food scene, great parks, Cubs, cool neighborhoods.

It’s the most culturally American big city in the country.
