Yeah that makes sense.

That's really my only complaint about it.

Some gyms are good some are bad; that's goes for any fitness facility however.

Anyone can start off doing crossfit and any reasonable trainer will scale down the workouts if it is needed

What is the trainer telling you that is so detailed and informative that you have to may $100+ to receive said information?

Olympic lifting isn't exactly the easiest thing to learn without proper training.

I found the book Body By Science a good starting point before beginning to work out again after a long hiatus.

Just do an old school progressive resistance bodybuilding routine. Given your age, I would use Dumbbells.

Three days on/one day off:
Day 1:
Bench press x 3 sets
Incline bench press x 3 sets
Dumbbell press (seated, straight up pressing Dumbbells) x 3 sets

Day 2:
Squats x 3 sets
Leg press x 3 sets
Calf raise x 3 sets

Day 3:
Lat pull downs (would prefer pull-ups but you're probably not strong enough, can substitute assisted pull-ups) x 3 sets
Dumbbell rows or tbar rows (or even a machine that simulates the same motion) x 3 sets
Dumbbell curls x 3 sets

Brisk Walk for 30 minutes every day.
Maybe integrate some HIIT cardio later on.

Choose a weight you can get 10 reps on your first set. Add 5-10 pounds on set 2, same for set 3. When you hit 12 reps on first set, 10 reps on second set, and 8-10 reps on third set, increase the baseline weight 5-10 pounds. (5 if dumbbell, 10 if barbell).

Consider the Body for Life 12 week program. Very basic but a good starting point to at least get back a level of fitness where you can decide where you wanna go from there

I'm in Crossfit and have never used a tire in 2 years.

Others try to replicate, but it's not the same.

Yes it is high, but WHO CARES? Don't use it if it doesn't work for you. It helps motivate me bc I like competition. I was at the y and I'm not as self motivated as others I guess. I stay in shape and keep going so it works for me.

I do not understand why ppl bash it. Ppl get hurt bc they do more than there supposed to. If it gets you in shape then why would you bash an excersise program? Some ppl have more discretionary income and maybe they wouldn't work out as much if they did not have that kind I atmosphere. Anything productive in health is positive. Stop steering ppl away that may benefit even though it may not be right for you.

People usually don't take folks seriously if they can't type out their words or not knowing the difference in their and there.

P90x3 did wonders for me. Minimal equipment and don't have to go to the gym. There's a long thread on it if you search.

I'm no expert but I'm middle aged and I've been through the same thing. The first step before any workouts is to start eating better. You lose weight by eating right not in the gym. Abs are made in the kitchen as they say. I can't stress this enough.

Cardio versus weights are a personal choice based on the body style you want. I never wanted a super buff look because I know I can't keep that up long term. I prefer my toned look. So I do more cardio than most. But when I lift I go pretty hard. You have to stretch yourself to see much progress and for me that's mentally challenging more than physically.

Superstar is correct, you need to get your body in semi good shape before you start lifting or you will hurt yourself.

I completely disagree with this. As long as you focus on form and try not to rush anything, you can start out with just about any program.

Yeah I was doing it on my cell with autocorrect. I don't take people serious who go on internet boards to post about grammar clearly caused by auto correct or mistypes.

You're clearly a douche off the internet.

cause anyone can do Crossfit

Not really. It takes a certain level of athleticism to do it right. It's good for people with motivation issues because you have a coach/trainer making up workouts for you and pushing you through it.

I did it for a month, got what I needed from it, and cancelled my membership. I make up my own regimen now and implement a lot of crossfit into my workouts. It's a great program, it just gets a bad rap because of all the douches who get way too into it and won't stfu about it.

Lord knows I'm not a Crossfit fanboy, but you can do it with bodyweight exercises, which eliminates most of the injury potential.
