I try to do seated calf raises with dumbbells but I honestly don't feel anything when I do them.
You hold the Dumbbells in your hands? That seems like your calfs would be lifting hardly anything

Yeah, it's weird. I take the dumbbells and put them on my knees. Then I put my toes on some big dictionary or a yoga block so I can get range of motion. I hold it at the top but it still doesn't really feel that intense.

YES!!!!

I have been told quite a few times from guys I competed with, my quads are my best feature on stage, but my calves are my worst...
I try and try, but they are not going anywhere

one thing i've learned through the years.. Just cause it works for you it might not work for others. You have to be open minded about other peoples success also.
Everybody's metabolism is different so in some instances you might be able to get sub 10% without much cardio, however for me to get there I NEED the extra cardio. That small extra 150-200 calories burned makes a huge difference. No I can't eat less. Sometimes I don't eat enough when i'm working on that last 5-8lbs. my diet gets about as strict as it can.
Nothing I hate more than studies.. You can find a study to prove or disprove anything. Forget about the "science" of it. Unless your competing otherwise keep it simple.
Grab a gym routine, a consistent meal plan, and stick with it. you will produce results. It takes time and there will be times where a week or so you will be stuck at the same body weight and wonder whats the problem. Just stick with it. Once you break through those plateaus the results come fast.

I stopped reading after y'all were discussing glycemic indices and shite. I am not that learned in the science of it like y'all other baws.

As for carb cycling I work it into my cut when I start.
Right, you're eating less calories

Bodybuilders use carb cycling a lot to drop body fat while maintaining as much muscle as they can
It is really used for the water retention that comes along with excess carbs. Cutting carbs is a great way to drop water weight over a few months

The only part of my body I'm not happy with is my chest, really. I need to get a bench press and bigger dumbbells.

I know you are trying to do it all from home, but even on a tight budget, that $10 fitness center people call planet fitness isn't that expensive
