If you care to know how grey market works here’s an explanation.
Authorized dealers have contracts with watch brands and they have to sell X amount of watches of that brand to stay as an authorized dealer. Well, sometimes the ADs can’t move enough stock to satisfy the brand, so the AD has to move their “old stock” some how and keep buying new stock from the brand. In order to get off of their old stock, they sell the watches to grey market dealers at a greatly reduced price. The grey market dealers then turn around and sell the watches for what is basically true market value of the watch.
Basically, you may be an idiot if you spend 5k on a Speedy, when you can get the same watch minus the warranty for 3.5k on the grey market. The warranty isn’t worth 1.5k.
For some brands, such as Rolex, it doesn’t really make sense to go grey market because you’ll end up with a sub 10% discount. A 5 year warranty on a 5k+ watch is probably worth $500 for the piece of mind.
ETA: also places like Jomashop leave the serials in tact on the watch, so while you may not be under warranty, the brand will still service the watch.

thank you. i was genuinely wondering.
once you buy one nice watch, you end up wanting 5 more
gotta match with all your belt and shoe combos

Except I've posted pictures of it here before. As with many of the things people question me on
You can always tell the people who live sad lives because they're the first ones to doubt that other people have nice things or do interesting things with their lives.

Check the rolexforums.com
I bet over 50% of the forum members buy from the grey market.
ie. $10K+tax(10% in B.R) listed for $9K.
That's $2k, a very significant amount.

You can always just change straps. I typically wear my watches on bracelets, because I like the weight, but sometimes I like to change it up and throw my watches on leather or Natos. The strap can completely change the look/feel of a watch.

I have nice things and do interesting things but I still think you try way too hard too often on here so I can see why people doubt you.

An automatic GMT with a red ceramic bezel is the same watch as a quartz diver with a green aluminum bezel? I guess to someone not “into” watches they are the “same”, but they seem pretty different to me

I guess both divers
I am not trying to be too diverse

They're homages of the same watch...and very damn similar interpretations. I think B is better than A, but it's a sell A and buy B...and not just wear bezel colors based on your GD clothing.
Y'all are all just wearing bracelets anyway, collect as much jewelry as you want. Consult the wife on which one matches better with the buckle on your shoes/boots/chuckas...or whatever.

I am not a watch aficionado like a lot in here, but I am about to get my first ‘nice’ watch I think.
My dad got a new one and is giving me his old Victorinox Swiss Army.
I’m not exactly sure what model it is, but my question is what is the opinion of this brand and their quality? Is it a solid ‘starter’ watch?

Dude, you are the biggest try hard on TD when it comes to trying to be stylish and worrying about what people think with your T1-11 plywood phone.
