wait was that black sunday??

Indeed it was.

Very little is mentioned of my unit in the stories. The 1st Cav commander asked our commander LTC Calvert for our support. We had already turned in our ammo and were ready to leave the next morning. They sent us back in there with one magazine each.

eta: since 1st Cav had taken over the sector already, they were noted as the unit involved...plus we were used to augment their forces.

yea were part of the siege of sadr city in 08'

we were tasked with building the wall to push the Mahdi army out of rocket range of the green zone. they were some bad MFs. they made our lives a living hell for 3 months

apparently Chris kyle was our overwatch, if you have seen American sniper the part with guy on the ladder that gets shot ( it didn't happen that way by the way, but there was a sniper in the area that just taking it to us every day and using a .50cal to make things worse. my buddy has one the rounds that hit us, says tungsten steel on it lol) but he is wearing an 821st patch, which is a national guard unit out of WV that deployed with the 769 EN BN.

Shame on your instructor. What happened in Korea is supposed to stay in Korea. Whenever I get together with friends from my time in Korea we end up laughing our asses off at the exploits/follies we participated in or witnessed. The reminiscing occurs outside the presence of wives, significant others and/or family members who might not appreciate the dirty details.

He was sharing his exploits with a group of 17 & 18 yr old privates out at the range. We thought this guy was the coolest Mf'er ever. He's the reason I listed Korea as my first choice on my dream sheet. Of course the Army thought better of it and sent me to Germany instead.

Kwang Ju, Korea (OL-D)
Kelly AFB (Security Hill)

Never had a bad assignment.

Kwang Ju was an operating location on a Korean AFB. The only time we did any real work was for Team Spirit. Lived with my Yobo off base had a blast.

Security Hill was even more fun, went TDY all over the world installing equipment for Electronic Security Command and anyone else that needed an E&I unit with a really high clearance.

if it means anything I understand your feelings.
it Its hard to watch them sometimes but I can honestly say is was somewhat therapeutic for me to watch it. I do suffer from PTSD but I have learned to accept it and try my best to control it. the movie is intense but they did our war justice with the sights, sounds and just mood of the time.

cheers to you brother.
