Looks like if you cut out the anesthesia and meds you can get it down to about $300. Hope this helps!

Ask the very how much they charge to euthanize a dog. Tell the vet you will pay that amount and it is up to the vet which procedure to do.
Wow.
That is awesome!

"Bandage Application Level 1, $40" - Seriously?
Gabapentin (Neurontin) is a scam drug, useful only for padding bills. 60 Minutes did a story on it years ago. I'd also question the Trazodone unless maybe your dog is likely to become severely depressed once it sees part of its tail has gone missing. As for the $75 Chem 10 Panel, BR Clinic only tries to rip off insurance for $47, which only allows $15, and that's for humans. fricking vets.

Trazodone is $4 at Winn Dixie Pharmacy for 30 tablets.
Looks like the vet is charging you $20 for one tablet.

Get a second estimate of cost but get it taken care of. Price seems fine to me. It's surgery.
Take care of your dog!

Looks like all your post op meds are included. Don't see something particularly out of line. It's a lot to do and do right.
Look at your last pic of your dog an say no. I couldn't do it. Get him squared away.

Oh so sorry for the pup. Blackened area may be necrosis, which means the tissue is dead. If it’s not taken care of, severe and possible fatal infection wil follow. Please take care of your pup, never mind the cost.

Please update us on how your pup is doing. I do hope she had the surgery and will have the follow-up care needed.

One of our older dogs had hers closed in a door. She chewed at it for a day and we had to amputate the wounded piece off.
In this instance, you brought her to the Vet immediately and they treated it. Are you blaming the Vet for not amputating it initially? Would you have agreed to that assessment?
Basically, they tried to treat it to avoid amputation, but it didn’t work so they now have to remove a piece.
..and you’re mad because you have to spend the extra $$?
If a person had to have, say, the tip of a finger removed, it would cost far more than $700.

2 days after, she seems to be doing well. They have her pretty doped up for now, so she is just doing a lot of laying around and doing a whole lot of nothing. Ended up being $530 so that was nice. Hoping this will be the last of it

In the old west, they used to just hack shite off, put a blade in a fire and jammed it on the wound. Maybe a few shots of Flint Lock whiskey and a stick in the mouth. Dogs today are pussies.

So glad to hear she is doing well. Please keep us posted. Thank you for caring.

Yes. That's ridiculous. I would just go somewhere else and tell them to go get fricked, but if you want to push it with these schmucks here's a place to start. First I would ask them why they even performed the first procedure. It was destined for failure and completely unnecessary. They should have waited and given the damaged tissue a chance to necrose before doing any kind of procedure. If not, you get what you got there. Second, ask them what they hope to learn from a $75 chem panel and such a young dog? Its completely unnecessary and I wouldn't do one on your child if they came in for a similar procedure (not saying your kid has a tail). They can take that gabapentin off. You won't be needing it. Lidocaine, won't need it. Ask them why they need trazadone. They won't have an intelligent answer so tell them you don't need it. Bandage application?! Holy shite. Buprenorphine? Ask them what it's for and why your dog needs it. They'll give you some shite sob story about pain. You ask them why they are charging you for three drugs to treat pain in a virtually painless procedure. Laser incision?
Seriously, this procedure requires almost NOTHING thats on that list. It should cost less then 100 bucks and could be performed by the most incompetent provider. Please ask them why the first procedure was so much cheaper and let me know.
