7/10 on the low end. I could see this even being a 9/10.

This is the norm in Houma. I've actually witnessed parking lot races with people trying to beat the other cars to the parking lot exit.

Trashy and against the law. Those frickers pull through our lot many times a day.

That's the intersection I had in mind.
If only I could find a way around Claiborne at MLK.

Only against the law if you have a sign saying no thru traffic.
Definitely trashy though.

Pulling into a gas station, "changing your mind" and deciding to drive on is no crime.

Isn't that illegal if caught?

True. I always pull into Walgreens to pick up prescriptions in the drive-through, but then remember my prescriptions are really at the other Walgreens in town.

It may vary by state but the sign is meaningless. It is not against the law (here, anyway) to cut through a parking lot regardless if there's a sign there.

It would be trespassing at that point. The act of cutting through isn’t illegal, it’s trespassing with posted signs. Like you said, varies by state. Most likely nothing would happen to you.
But, it could probably give a cop a reason to stop you so if you baws got suspended licenses and meth in the car, you’re fricked.

I'll go Ferris Bueller over your fence if I get from point A to point B faster and have more leisure time to myself

It's illegal in many places with the exception (typically) of cutting through a parking lot to take advantage of a traffic light. The law generally reads effectively that it is illegal to use a privately owned parking lot to avoid traffic signs or signals.
Of course I only know this because the subject came up on a local morning show on an ask the officer segment.
And at least 7/10.

"This looks like a good place to get some gas...Aw, look at those ridiculous prices! I'm sure I can find cheaper gas somewhere else."

let me take this as an opportunity to rant on one of the trashy moves that drives me nuts:
dropping people off at the grocery store door before parking

Absolutely against the law in the state of Louisiana.
C. No person shall drive any vehicle through or over private property, including, but not limited to, any corner parking or driveway facility, from a highway solely for the purposes of entering another highway.
(25) "Highway" means the entire width between the boundary lines of every way or place of whatever nature publicly maintained and open to the use of the public for the purpose of vehicular travel, including bridges, causeways, tunnels and ferries; synonymous with the word "street".
