Ok, well in that case it makes a lot more since.

My kindergarten kid has homework every night. It baffles me, I really think it is stupid, most of it involves Common Core stuff which I support including the Eureka math component .. I think they are sending do much homes so the parents can learn not to have to use a paper and pencil for simple math

My kindergartener has homework every night as well. It doesn't take nearly as long as my daughter's though. I remember the teacher said during open house at the beginning of the year that she didn't believe in sending home homework for a kindergarten every day, but three months into the school year he's doing something every single night.

Son of a 4th grade Social Studies teacher here.

You should have a meeting with your kids teachers. And when you go into the meeting, don't be close minded and believe that it in no way can be your daughters fault. Exact same situation happened with my mother and the other 4th grade teachers last year, but the problem was that the kid was always given the chance to start/do most of their homework in class, but he was slacking off and talking with friends instead. Not saying it is the same situation, but it seems likely.

Oh it really is more of a nuisance than anything, but it is every night. I wish they would concentrate more on making sure he wipes his arse. So far he is breaking em off clean, but I dread the day he doesn't it's gonna be terrible, but he will know how to divide.

Probably true. It was for me. I hated homework, and although my parents stayed on me when younger, once it was up to me I didn't do it. I aced tests and got zeroes on HW, which obviously held my grades back a little from where they should have been. Did the same thing in college (except replace homework with class).

I am not envious of the amount of HW my kids/I will eventually have to do, especially if my child isn't getting a ton of benefit from it. I've never been able to sustain work ethic for something that wasn't helping me, so I'm worried about how to instill that in someone else.

The more teachers get evaluated by the test scores of the students the more homework the students will have.

I doubt she's even really a nurse... just because you've seen a few episodes of Trapper John, M.D. doesn't mean you're a medical professional.

I actually had/have the exact same work ethic when it comes to homework. One year, my mom was even my teacher, and I showed up one day without her homework.

Once I got moved away from my friends every year from 3rd grade all the way to high school, I usually had homework finished before I even left the class though.

I was friends with all the smart chicks so what I did was get to school a little early each morning and copy their work before class.

Work smarter, not harder.

I have the memory of a rock, but if I recall, teachers always gave us time at the end of the period to start on your homework. If you chose to chat with friends, you had more homework.

I had no friends, so I always finished my homework in class.

It's absurd for teachers to teach subject, and then start doing some of your homework in class to be assured that you are understanding the material because they can see in the class what the problem is?

I guess you must have skipped math from 3rd grade all the way up to college. Must be nice.

My teachers even in college do homework in class.
In fact, one math class, every lecture was just coming to do your homework so the lab assistant (i guess thats what they were called) could see what you did wrong.
