While cutting my grass, a rock shattered the outside glass pane of my back door. The inside pane is fine, so I was hoping to just replace the outside pane.

I called relief windows and they said they would have to replace both panes at a cost of around $550. This price just seems way too high.

Does anyone have any glass or window company recommendations around Baton Rouge? Does anyone know if it's possible to just replace the outside glass pane?

The door looks like this:

Does it have little screw holes all around the inside? If so its most likely an insert that will come with the new frame and glass and everything. We usually sell them for like $150.00 or so each depending on size. You just have to measure the width and height from screw hole to screw hole and that should let a glass shop know the size you need.

I will have to check when I get home. I sure as hell hope it has them. I was hoping to spend around $250 at most, so that would be great.

I don't have a clue on the glass, but for $550 you could fairly easily put in a whole new door I'd think.

I don't know about glass windows doors at all, but can you replace a single pane of the double panes?

just so you know I'm not including a labor number in that, I'm not sure what someone in BR will charge you. They are not hard to change though. I'm not an installer but I've done a few of those no problem.

I was thinking the same things along these lines. The screw-in replacement panes are pretty common. DIY Door Store sells the 20x64 for right around $200. (22x64 are the same price). You can get low-e glass for about $20 more.

That is a full glass insert. ...Measure the dimensions of it .out to out of the trim piece width and height..call local Lumber yards some may have one in stock.... Try Holmes on Airline first they have a door shop.. you can probably remove and replace on your own
Should have plugs that can be removed and expose the screws

You have to replace the complete glass insert - very easily done by yourself. I bought mine at Sorrento Lumber Company, where my original doors were purchased. The price a couple of years ago was around $87.

Same thing happened to me last month.

A local glass company (in NWLA) had those standard size inserts in stock (double pane glass and trim rings) for $100.

Their installation price was $75, but I knocked it out with another person in 10-15 minutes.

First install a screen door. That way, this won't happen again.
