I went to an event this weekend and they had some photographers walking around taking pictures. Pretty neat looking setups where there was a frame connecting the camera, flash, and phone. At first I thought they were just using the phones as large preview screens, but then they also asked for phone numbers and would in just a few minutes send you a link to the picture they just took.
Just wondering, what do you call these frames? And what kind of apps are there that connect the phones to the cameras?

It's a cage. You can get them on Amazon or spend $1,000's on a fancy one from B&H photo video.
They just allow you to hang shite off the sides and top of the camera.

They are camera cages. They allow for multi-attachment points for rig accessories for people trying to make small video camera setups. You can attach top handles and side handles for better stabilization, shotgun mics, external monitors, lights and batteries to power it all. They have uses for photography as well. Many cages have built in Arca-Swiss plates for mounting to tripods in horizontal and vertical orientation. They also offer a small amount of protection to your gear.
