After asking what other parents do, mind you.

It's almost as if she was looking for validation on not being considerate enough to pick up a phone and ask.

No doubt. This was either a thread to rile nurse up or a thread to validate being a shitty (well, at least inconsiderate) person.

Or a little of both, most likely.

Go back and read my post. I said 25 years of adulthood. Let's say my balls dropped when I was 13. You do the math genius.

Please excuse me for missing that. I still don't understand what you're getting so upset about here or what it is you think I've done that's so high and almighty or whatever.

I feel certain that anyone who has posted in the last nine years already knows that fact. You've posted it, what, four times in this thread alone?

but even IRL, if you are having any type of discussion about parenting and you tell a non parent "I'm sorry, you don't have kids, you probably don't understand" and they lose their shite

it's just odd to me

FWIW, that depends on the discussion IMO. If it's come common sense shite, then that statement is completely meant to degrade and piss the other person off. "I never let my kid play with forks next to the electrical outlets...but YOU WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE KIDS."

Obviously it certainly would apply a lot of times though.

To be fair, telling anyone they "don't understand" about anything (non-children-related stuff) comes off as condescending. Doesn't mean you're trying to be, but that's how people take it.

It's more polite to just decide internally that you don't find value in their opinion.. IMO

oh I know

but literally any other experience you can use the "if you haven't done it you can't offer your opinion" line and everyone agrees with it

but not parenting...god not parenting

Most reasonable people don't take offense to this, if a surgeon told me I didn't understand how to repair an acl I wouldn't be offended

If an attorney told me I didn't understand some obscure law I wouldn't be offended

I don't know. My cool friends talk to me about their kids all the time. I don't try to act like I really know what I'm talking about when I'm offering advice but mostly I just listen. There are some people who act all high and mighty about it and even before I've even said anything, they tell me that I just don't understand. Are you that person? They suck. I don't like them. I never once said that I understand. I never said anything, shite. Those are usually the same people that complain a lot.

I do understand what you're saying, though. Parents vs. non-parents = ridiculously extreme on both sides.
