To be fair, telling anyone they "don't understand" about anything (non-children-related stuff) comes off as condescending. Doesn't mean you're trying to be, but that's how people take it.

oh I know
but literally any other experience you can use the "if you haven't done it you can't offer your opinion" line and everyone agrees with it
but not parenting...god not parenting
This thread is a great example of how correct you both are here.

There are some people who act all high and mighty about it and even before I've even said anything, they tell me that I just don't understand. Are you that person?
oh god no
I'm quite aware that I'm basically just wingin' this parenting thing

if a surgeon told me I didn't understand how to repair an acl I wouldn't be offended
If an attorney told me I didn't understand some obscure law I wouldn't be offended

FWIW, I wasn't offended at all...just thought it was hilarious that the OP thought a topic like this was so foreign to nonparents that they couldn't actually contribute.
Of course they can respond and give an opinion. I understand this is a public message board. But, just because they have an opinion doesn't mean I care to hear it. I didn't want to have to sort through the riff raff. You know I'm busy being a parent, changing diapers, finding a cure for world peace, etc. If I got some of your panties in a bunch then, well, get some new panties.

Yeah it's all in their tone.
And like coco said....what they are saying you don't understand.

FWIW, my friends are the same way (shite, most of the people in my life are).

But he's got a really sweet man-purse and he's going to attempt Louisiana's first ever natural pool.

and I'm sure he is a great dad.. and I really hope he invites me to his kids 1st dbay party.

Then why not post this question on a parenting forum?

I don't know you at all, but that statement makes you sound like a shitty person and a bitch. I'm not saying you are those things...but that's how it sounds. So the very first post in this thread was completely helpful and exactly what a lot of parents said as well, but you disregarded it immediately. I assume that's because it was nurse or whatever, but you do realize that it was good advice, right?
Also, I'm glad you're back in the thread...sorry for getting you all worked up when I told you I'd (likely) have sex with you.

Yeah the beauty of posting on here is that you have various opinions from all sorts of people.
That should be a plus IMO

You okay, brah? That's like the third of fourth time in the last page and a half that you've referenced god and sounded distraught.
Posted on 7/1/14 at 1:29 pm to Winkface
I only have 2 kids and I don't have a problem asking for advice or getting suggestions from parents that have 3,4 or 5 kids. They obviously have more expierence and have seen more than I have. I don't see how that's any different between parents of 1 or 2 and non parents.
