Just signed up for a private school for the youngest. I want his character developed. I want him in a place where not only is it ok to say God, but he is encouraged. Also I feel like he is held back (in a highly rated district) to increase local scores.
Ding. Ding. Ding. Couldn't have said it better myself.

often has the opposite of the desired effect, just sayin'

I paid private tuition for the better part of 20 years. I'd pay it again without question.

Maybe it does for some people. I'm truly blessed by God with my son. He's naturally nice, kind, giving.
I see that kind of going away after a year in public school.
I don't want him in a place where it's cool to do bad.

I hear you, raising kids isn't easy, lots of mine fields out there.

It's easier when they are in private, especially the younger ages. They get Christianity, respect, discipline, and pledge to the flag of our country.

In South Bay I would go public. If you move to east bay that would obviously change.....but between Saratoga and Cupertino the public schools there rival most of the country.....lastly, your children probably won't get into UC regardless so save your money for out of state tuition.

Why not UC schools? Too competitive?

I live in a nicer 'hood, complete with a prominent tax base, paved roads, and a quality, accountable school system. I have no need to seek out private education.

My wife is a nurse at a private school. I find it strange. The teachers are not paid as well as public so many of them are inexperienced.
Sounds like a shitty private school

Damn, another one of these threads.

why is she a nurse at private school, lack of experience?

There's some sort if issues going on with him...maybe some sort of money anger. It's just an all around weird post, imo. Maybe they couldn't get into the school.
You're the one who said it's impossible to prefer a public school to private.

This is pretty much how I feel about it. I live in Broussard, and I have not heard anything good about the Broussard public schools that are in our district. So as long as I can afford it, we'll be sending our kid to either St. Cecilia, which I have heard great things about, or to St. Edwards in New Iberia. If we lived in Youngsville, I have heard great things about the public elementary school there, and I would honestly send him there. As far as high school, I really don't know. Comeaux is a good school from what I hear, I have a couple teachers that live near me that speak well of it. But I also have friends who send their kids to Teurlings and STM. I am not sure I can afford those two, but who knows. I am not opposed to Comeaux at this point. I don't have to worry about that for a long time.

This question is worded in a weird way. I don't think there is a preference between the two, I think the preference is about quality vs cost.

Diversity is overrated

I work with physicians who pay 50k a year for private advisors for their 9th graders. Maybe if you consider Chico or San Luis obispo but Berkeley is out of the question. Too many tiger moms have that shite on lock down. Pepperdine is always a good option. But still, my head interventional radiologist is giving serious consideration to UAB for his daughter in premed. She is 4.0 coming out of the marina.....has no hopes of UC.

I know right? All those public school kids start the day by spitting on the flag.

"You're the one who said it's impossible to prefer a public school to private."
That's lie clown. And the rest of the quote said what? I said that there are many variables that make it not an option. Mostly money, access/acceptance, location, etc
But if those variables are removed, no parent would choose public over private.
