OT Opinion on Riding Lawn Mowers

I was looking at my local Home Depot and saw their selection of riding mowers.
I noticed that they had a few of what looked like last year’s model of battery/electric riding mowers from Cub Cadet on clearance for nearly half price. They had the 30 and 42 inch models for 1799, and 2199. Regular pricing on these are 2999, 4499. They come with 3 year warranties and 4 year battery warranties.
In gas they also had a 42 inch Troy Pony for 1999, and a John Deere 42 for 2,299.
So, would it be worth going electric or stick with gas. I have a 100x100 residential lot and may start cutting other yards in the neighborhood as a nice gesture.

How long do the batteries last on a single charge? Will that work for you? What's the life expectancy of the batteries? How much are replacement batteries?

Battery powered riding lawnmower sounds like a huge PITA

I hit up a local dealer last year and got a scag zero turn, it’s like $80/mo.

Gotta wear a white tank top and drink Miller high life while cutting. Thing will last forever and you can lift it up with one hand to work on the blade

The 30 inch model is supposed to cut up to 1 acre/30AH, and the 42 inch is rated for 2 acres/60AH. The 42 also has an automatic transmission and more cutting height options.

Make sure it has a cup holder

If you want it to last, never buy from a big box store.
You can get an Exmark 42" zero turn with a welded deck for a little over 3,000. No way I would buy anything other than a zero turn.

The 30 inch looks similar to that one with the batteries in the rear and just a front steering column.

I have no experience with the electric mowers but I have a Cub Cadet Enduro that is in its 8th season and I've haven't had any problems with it. I change the oil and air filter at the start of each season and had to replace one battery and that's it

Because you can drink beer and mow at the same time.

I have a 42" ryobi electric.
Thing is a beast. I can cut about 2 acres in one charge.
Very little maintenance.

It does. That snapper is honestly a great choice for a lawn your size. It’s a very proven design over the last half century. Someone here also mentioned Exmark. If at a big box store the toro timecutter zero turns are essentially the same mower, believe the lower end ex marks are made at a toro factory. I have 60 inch exmark, but I’m cutting 3 acres non residential with it.
