As a general rule stadium shows are terrible anyway so it's a hard thing to accomplish even without broadcast being the focus. If the SB halftime show was really about awesome musical performance they should do it off sight at a real venue (but obviously it's not and you'd lose the hundreds of half naked dude dancers, etc.).

I can get down with that tbh. The Weeknd is someone I'd go see live again in a heartbeat, but he doesn't have an act to go along with his vocals a la Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga.

but I think it is pretty key to modern super bowl halftime success

Halftime sucked. I'm also gonna guess having all those dancers out on the field probably made the field a bit slicker during that first drive.
