I would just go with them to their bank, let them cash it, give me the cash, then give them the jeep.

He should have at least called the bank to verify funds before handing over the keys.

It was a sunday. The bank didn't have a check verification feature on the automated service.

Then Monday it is. The newest scams are all about printing cashiers checks on the home computer. Writing the check on his own closed account is incredibly stupid and proves he has no long game in mind.

I am not kidding when I say give his personal information from the check, plus his phone number. You will learn worlds of info about him in qualifying time.

Well that’s fricked up, considering the DA has a worthless checks division.

bull shite. Writing bad checks is a crime. Theft by deception comes to mind. Call the AG's office for advice.

Last time I went to court for a traffic ticket the girl before me on the docket was in jail for writing bad checks and she wrote a lot less than $6000 worth. She said she had been in jail for over two years. Judge would not let her out until she made good on the checks - she said she did not have any money because she was in jail and Judge said tuff shite and then he sent her back to jail. True story in Baker City Court.

File a criminal complaint AND a civil petition seeking dissolution of the contract with damages and attorney’s fees.

time to get law enforcement involved. Unfortunately, your son in law will be lucky if he gets anything other than a vehicle that has been beat to shite....

Writing bad checks and/or fraud is not criminal?
