Doesn’t seem like it’s time now, but getting very close. Twenty years is a long time for a cat or dog to live. I’ve been through this too many times because it was hard to let go. Most importantly, as much as you love them, you also don’t want them to suffer. I let two suffer more than they should have because I couldn’t let go.

Ignore the AH’s on this post making derogatory comments about your cat. They have no soul.

My cat walks around the house wailing all the time and she’s not that old. It’s a weird cat thing. I don’t recall her doing it in the old house but she’s done it since we’ve been here for a year.

But yeah OP- it’s time. We put our old girl down when she was going to the bathroom outside the box.

Whomever down voted my post has no heart. Perhaps it was the poster who suggested a 22 caliper round. Or perhaps it’s someone who killed kittens by throwing them out of a moving car or putting them in a bag and throwing them in a river crossing. Whomever it is, anyone who would do this to a creature created by God would do this to anyone. I pray for your soul.

A friendly poster was simply asking about when do you know it’s time to put down your beloved pet. To the down voters and negative commenters where is your compassion

Our cat started doing it in the night after many years of not doing it, but would only do it if we were not in the room. We were worried, so we set up a night camera. Turns out, she was putting her toy knit mouse in her mouth and "singing" to it. Weird cat things indeed.

Hate to hear it man. We just put down our little black cat. If you think it’s time it probably is unfortunately. Ours stoped eating and her kidneys were shutting down. We knew it was over and spent one last day with her. Still hurts.

I had to put my 20 year old big Maine Coon cat down at the end of July. He had diabetes for years and was receiving 2 shots of insulin a day for the last 4 years of his life. He was doing really good for that age up until 2 weeks. Then he stopped eating and his blood sugar got way out of whack. Gave him medicine he didn’t react well too. Then the night before I put him down he had these terrible seizures, made awful guttural sounds like a wild animal. I really regret not putting him down sooner, before it got to that point.

It’s hard to know when to do it but I learned it’s better sooner than before it gets bad. 20 years is a long time for a cat.

When the cat is in pain. You can tell because they get very quiet, don't move much, and don't want to be handled.

Sad how old cats go out. We lost ours the same way.
