OT Docs - Question RE Recurring Nasal Staph Infections

I have seen an ENT for this for over a year. He keeps me on the antibiotics for 6 weeks instead of 2 like the internist. Two times ago he lanced it - won't detail that horror. And here I am again and again.

I'm worried that I'm taking sooo many antibiotics that those frickers are living in me resistant and rent free.

At this point I'd gladly snort anything to make this go away.

I'm taking Bactrim now and have before as well as augmentin maybe and doxy something. In addition I'm shoving mupricin up both nostrils and sleeping with some sort of packing in the bad nosstil in case it's bursts in my sleep.

Try sleeping knowing that a zit in your nose could pop sending staph pouring down your face.

I don't know if that could happen, but I think it could, thus making it very, very real. And scary.

I hope all those anti-biotics doesn't make your regular staph morph to MRSA.

That's my fear. How long can I keep taking antibiotics before those critters are armored for the kill???

Been there my friend. I had to have my ENT bring on an Infectious Disease Specialist who was well versed in dealing with MRSA and he had a PICC line inserted and for two weeks Vancomycin was pumped into me through it. My Wife had to have home health teach her how to administer the Vancomycin antibiotic and how to flush the PICC Line before and after each infusion. It made me constantly nauseous but Phenergan was prescribed to keep the vomiting to a minimum amount. I thought I would never get well but the Vancomycin finally killed the Staph and the nightmare ended. My advice would be to get your ENT to refer you to a good infectious disease doctor and let them handle it for you.

I know your pain. I had the same recurring staph shite in my nose for a year and a half. I tried everything - Bactrim, clyndamycin, mupirocin, neosporin, essential oils on the skin of my nose and breathing in diffused essential oils, bleach baths, hibiclins, eating garlic - you name it I tried it.

It would go away for a month then come back. It was maddening, depressing, and embarrassing. I looked like Rudolph!

Finally after my dermatologist’s advice became apparently void, I sought out a specialist on my own. I found an immunologist with the most Indian-sounding name I could find (because foreign doctors know their shite). Kinda racist but it fricking WORKED!

He asked me tons of questions and ran multiple rounds of blood work. Turned out I was lacking protection from almost all of the pneumococcal viruses that are known. I was walking around susseptible to major deadly viruses and had no idea!!!

He prescribed the Prevnar13 shot. The pharmacist looked at me like I was joking, since it’s mostly only taken by those 65 and older.

I got the shot and four weeks later more blood work. The result was almost perfection - no more susceptibility to those viruses AND I have had one tiny infection in my nose that cleared up within two days since then. It’ll be a year in May that I got the shot. I also still alternate weeks between neosporin and mupirocin in my nostrils each night just in case.

Me having no protection at all to all the pneumococcal viruses also left me vulnerable to staph infections. I’m sure every human body is different and reacts differently to various things, so I don’t know if this is the same solution for you but you should seek out an Infectious Desease specialist or an Immunologist and let him or her do their thing.

I wish you luck, my inbred Bama friend. Staph is a bitch and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I hope you get it cleared up.
