I want to build a built in corner bookcase in my house. Something like this LINK

I have floating laminate flooring where the bookcase will go. My question is, should I cut out the flooring where the bookcase will sit? Or should I just build the bookcase on top of the flooring?

Doesn't it seem that theres a good bit in each place she shelves meet that goes unused? Potentially 12 square inches of overlap.

You talking about the corners? I'm sure the wife will put one of her many useless nicknacks in those spaces

I suppose my concern is if I ever want to replace the flooring, I'd have to tear the bookcase apart.

On top. If you ever decided to rip it out the flooring is already there.

If you ever decide to redo the floor then just cut around it.

or just cut the floor out around the bookcase, since you're ripping that up anyway

Would imagine the trim molding on the bottom is there to cover the seam between the floor and cabinet.

If you're going to build a bookcase like that, it should be a doorway to a secret room, IMHO.

But then you have to build a secret room too

On top, and if you want it to be sturdy and square, buy a kreg jig if you don't have one already.

Do it OT style. 2x6’s and cinder blocks stacked. Take it down when you move your trailer to a new park.

I was going to use a nailgun instead of screws.

I built this one in a corner, but I think it's a lot bigger than the one you want.

That looks really nice. We're your floors already there when you built it?

Yeah, the floors were already there. Old style hardwood floors
