OT Cops: Are You Taught Restraint/Proportionality at the Academy?

Seems like every time one of these controversial shootings takes place, the cop empties his magazine into the guy.
We all saw the video. If he pulled out a pistol, deadly force was likely warranted. But why do you have to shoot someone lying on the ground, being restrained by your cop partner, 8-11 times?
My guess is they are streamlining the academy and failing to teach cops they need to start seeing the BIG picture in their role, or they are all major pussies who freak out and keep squeezing the trigger until empty.
Seems like when our grandfathers were cops they would have handled these differently.

I kinda thought this as well until I saw the second video where it was clear that he was against the car and that was preventing them from being able to properly secure him

If our grandfathers shot a black guy they'd probably get a parade thrown for them

1. He didn't shoot 8-11 times. It was more like 4(?)
2. Your grandfather carried a 6-shooter with a 13 pound trigger pull and 1 inch reset. Modern police carry Glock 17's with a 5 pound pull and 1/10th of an inch reset.

Once the shooting starts, neither officer is going to hold on to the guy. They separate for distance while continuing to fire. Contrary to the movies, unless you are extremely lucky and hit his central nervous system for instant incapacitation, the suspect can still move and potentially pull a weapon until he succumbs to blood loss and loses consciousness.
All that to say, you don't shoot once and then wait around to see if it had any effect, you keep shooting until certain that he cannot fight back.

Well, I don't think we're ALL seeing the same thing that's for sure.

Have you ever actually done it live?

You shoot until the threat is stopped.
You don't shoot a couple times and then hope the other guy decides not to shoot back.
Once you recognize it is a lethal force action you fire until that threat is has been stopped.

This.
Add adrenaline dump, auditory exclusion and tunnel vision of a high stress event and you can dump a magazine of 9mm from your Glock pretty quick.
I'm former military not a cop.

Has there been a reason given why the cameras mysteriously fell off? That makes it sound like they're not even trying to cover up their misdeeds.

If it's already devolved into deadly force, fire until you're empty. In for a penny, in for a pound.

Really?
They clip on....it's not that odd that they fell off during the struggle

Not a cop but I have the answer. Use of deadly force use of force that has a likely hood of death or great bodily harm.
PS: You're not a proofreader either, are you.
Wait until the Grand Jury has the chance to be presented this case. The armchair Perry Masons and Hamilton Burgers here generally have their minds made up already, don't confuse them with statutes, laws, procedures and the like.
