Plus I just checked again, they are 788 a piece. I don't know if that is the flooding but it was the same price as when I looked a month ago.

If you book within a week or two of the flight, usually it's several hundred $ more than booking further in advance.

Perfect example is BTR-CHS. This weekend, it's $763 to go Friday-Sunday. Next weekend, it's $584. Weekend after, $552, then $394, etc. That's why when I do these threads it's usually for far in advance flights (several months) because that's when airlines release their cheap inventory. By this point, there's no cheap inventory left

ETA: If you want BTR or MSY- CHS, go in November or December and it's $280

Best luck out of BTR is to book at least 3 weeks out.

Actually that's a general rule....3-6 weeks out is usually the best deal unless it's a special weekend with some kind of holiday or event for any origin or destination.

Know any solid ways to get deals on cruises in December?

Royal Caribbean and Celebrity have some good prices out of S. Florida on 5 night sailings in the middle of December.
