Plus I just checked again, they are 788 a piece. I don't know if that is the flooding but it was the same price as when I looked a month ago.

If you book within a week or two of the flight, usually it's several hundred $ more than booking further in advance.
Perfect example is BTR-CHS. This weekend, it's $763 to go Friday-Sunday. Next weekend, it's $584. Weekend after, $552, then $394, etc. That's why when I do these threads it's usually for far in advance flights (several months) because that's when airlines release their cheap inventory. By this point, there's no cheap inventory left
ETA: If you want BTR or MSY- CHS, go in November or December and it's $280

Best luck out of BTR is to book at least 3 weeks out.
Actually that's a general rule....3-6 weeks out is usually the best deal unless it's a special weekend with some kind of holiday or event for any origin or destination.
