FYI, Allegiant charges for carry-on bags as well. Fees can rack up pretty quickly.

General rule of thumb anywhere between 1-2 months out so you may want to wait a bit. But I did just notice spirit has started flying MSY-LAS for $187 roundtrip. Delta is at $343, Southwest $326, and that's the cheapest. For that price difference, just pay to check a bag and for a big seat and it'll still be cheaper on spirit.

Allegiant charges for everything, like choosing seats, bags, using a credit card vs. a debit card, etc. Their business model is set up to where you book flights, hotels, car rentals all directly with them.

They fly a fleet of former SAS and Aeromexico MD80s with some A319s replacing older aircraft. Their on-time performance is not very good and they do not have any interline agreements with other carriers in the event of delays or cancellations.
