OT Catholics, how often do you go to confession?

Do you try to go fairly regularly, or only if you have something serious going on? Or do you just not go?

a guy from college used to go all the time. I asked him the same thing. He said he was consumed with guilt every time after he "beat the bishop"...

I am not Catholic, but most are CEOs. Christmas and Easter only.

I was forced by my parents to undergo the torture of baptism as a small child. So I am "Catholic"

As I am not a believer it has been 25+ yrs since my last confession.

I go when I think I should but when I think I should I should have gone sooner...

Or when I miss Mass or Holy Day of Obligation which would be very unusual...

Just a heads up. We are called to confess our sins to God and our Christian community. You don't need it to be a priest. Jesus is the great high priest. Confession is good, healthy, and encouraged, but don't believe that doing it in front of a priest and then praying a bunch of silly prayers is necessary.

Don't tell everyone everything, but tell someone everything!

Live grace-filled lives free by the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

When I was a practicing Catholic, confession was one of the more complex aspects of my faith. I argued against it in religion classes since I was a child, and I could often find something to prevent me from going when my family had planned it on a Saturday here or there. However, on the few times that I made it, it was always a surreal experience. As useless as I thought it was, when I was done with my penance I would walk out feeling like a new man. There is something powerful about acknowledging your shortcomings to another person, whether you're religious or not.

The OP is talking about Catholics. The sacrament of confession absolutely must be performed in front of a priest

Perhaps you should tell Jesus he was wrong.

John 20:
quote:

22 And when he had said this, he lbreathed on them and said to them, m“Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 nIf you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”

I've done some pretty unholy things with the holes of some Catholic girls, I wonder if I've ever been the topic in some of these confessions

I was raised catholic, and my parents are still strongly practicing but I go to a non denom church now and feel much more fulfilled, I've learned things the Catholic faith never seemed to teach me. It really opened my eyes. That being said, when I was catholic I went about once every 2 years. My mom goes about once a month when they have it right after mass.
