I have one, I feel like it’s a good bang for your buck automatic, before getting into luxury watches.

Do you have to get serviced every few years?

It’s debatable, but typically you’re looking at Tudor, Breitling, and lower Omegas as entry level luxury.

ETA: also maybe Tag Heuer, but they get a ton of hate in the watch community.

Are the movements better?

Is mostly name brand and asthetic or is there technical specs

Omega I liked is a chronometer so that is better than movement I am getting

I wouldn't even think of it until 7 or so.

It’s going to be watch specific with Breitling and Tudor, some models utilize modified ETAs (mostly top grade and regulated even though they don’t always advertise that), but they also have some watches with in-house movements.

New Omegas are typically going to be in-house, unless you get a Speedmaster which is a modified Lemania movement.

Pricing typically comes down to a few things, heritage, finishing, and movements are the biggest factors. Obviously if you get into precious metals, that will drive the price up too.

Looks like a knock off Submariner.

Okay Gaston, I suppose every diving watch is a submariner homage, right?

It doesn’t look anything like a submariner, unless you think every dive watch looks the same.

Yes. I wouldn’t spend the money on a COSC Christopher Ward, though. How much is that going for?

ETA: Rather than spending 2k on a CW COSC watch, I’d save up a bit more and get a Tudor Black Bay with an in-house movement, of COSC Certification is important to you. It’ll run you ~3k, but it beats out the CW in all 3 categories (Heritage, Finishing, and Movement). And it looks a lot better too.

The flat profile of the Chris ward looks nice

For a cheaper option, I really like the Orient Blue Mako

Does a movement overall get certified or is it individual instance of that movement?

Just curious if your movement is capable of being certified if it is not does that mean it didn't make cut or they just didn't pay to test it?

I am not caught up on hertiage. To my understanding Rolex didn't start out as some super luxury brand. They just had really good watches and built to where they are. Christopher Ward is 10y old what is to say I am not on the front of that curve?

Finishing I am a stainless steel person so precious metals are wasted on me.

Movement are really interesting to me. Will continue to study.

I love those Orients. I’ve got the orange Mako and a blue Ray II.

What do y’all think about vintage watches? Was thinking about trying to find an older Omega for close to 1K. Any years, models, best places to purchase, advice?

Yes, they are a “sister” brand of Rolex, owned by Rolex. They used to share actual cases, and other parts with Rolex but they’ve kinda made their own identity as of late.
