re: Ordering a vehicle from the factory

My husband had to specially order his Jeep Rubicon because it is very hard to find a manual one. So he specially ordered one with all exact stuff he wanted. He was trading in another Jeep Rubicon that was 2 years old (with really low miles...like 18k miles). Very hard to get huge discounts in general on Jeep Wranglers because they sell themselves. But my husband got a fair deal because he got a great trade in on his older jeep(his trade in value was 4k less than what he originally paid for it).
He got his new Jeep in 6 weeks. Most nerve-wracking part of it was him driving his other jeep he was trading in during that wait. His trade in value was estimated...but wouldn't be finalized until the new jeep arrived. So if he got in a wreck or anything happened...that trade in would be affected big time. So he avoided driving it as much as he could in those 6 weeks.

True story. If your current car is part of the deal, just remember that. No Fast and Furious if you're planning to trade it in.

Are you still able to haggle pretty well on the price?
No, They will skull frick you.
Best thing to do is to get on their national website and find a model that is as close as you can get and find one somewhere near you. Then you can call multiple dealers and negotiate. Trucks on the lot now routinely see $10K discounts if you find the right sale.
If you seriously want to negotiate you have to be ready to walk. If they know you want this special vehicle no matter what then you are fricked again... That is why I say talk to multiple dealers.

I don't like the idea of settling or paying more for things I don't want just because it's readily available.
Last comment I swear... Manufacturers give the best deals on vehicles with option "packages" rather than individual menu option selection. It keeps their cost of assembly down. You will get raped ordering ala carte. Make a list of all the things you want and dont worry about the extras that might come with it.
Several yrs ago I was shopping Chevy trucks and could not find a Silverado with the option I demanded - power leather driver seat (back in 95). I had to buy a GMC Sierra to get the option package that included my deal breaker. Stupid part of that was that Chevy Silverado's and GMC Sierra roll down the same assembly line...

Ordering a vehicle saves dealers the insurance, lot fees and other costs involved with having a car sit in inventory. This can make them more motivated to negotiate on price since the vehicle costs them less than an in stock unit.
