On those study guides, there have been between 3 and 10 questions. Most have around 7 questions.
In my opinion there should be at least 15 items, preferably more.

having seen the quality of education majors when I was in college, no level of stupidity or absurdity surprises me.

I wouldn't necessarily call it a "problem", but I hope you are being facetious.

In my 25 years of teaching I never weighted grades.
Each assignment was worth a certain number of points depending on big or small the assignment was. Grade= total points made vs possible

yeah, the failure is in the weighting, everything shouldn't be worth a 100 point grade. study guides and shite should be a max of 20 points or weighted 20% if they are graded 0 to 100

I can tell you the reason teachers do this though. They get mad when kids skip out on doing their bullshite assignments and still ace the tests. A lot of kids can pass 6th grade tests almost as soon as they go through the concepts once without doing the homework n bs classroom assignments. Teachers want the kids doing those things regardless if they have already mastered the material or not.

I was once sent to the principals office for reading a book in class after being told to pay attention. I was acing the class with flying colors but the teacher was insistent that i still needed to pay attention to the lectures

All those tests being worth 100 points is ridiculous. A "section" test should be a quiz. Fifty points at the most. That's absurd.

ETA: "who or whom" worth 100 points?? That's a 20 point worksheet at best...

I doubt teachers spend more time than necessary on mastered skills.

Just curious though, how are you such an expert with 6th grade?

Grades are all "weighted." Now how you assign "weights" that can vary.

Exactly. You said "a lot." I guess how you define "a lot" is the key.

Education was founded on the premise of educating the masses, not everyone. That's where we've gone wrong. "Some kids DO get left behind, it's okay." That would be my motto if I ran for governor.

I never understood why teachers gave a shite about homework if a kid is passing all of the tests, at that point all they are doing is punishing the kid for knowing the material. It's so dumb.

Or why so dam much? If, for example, you want to see if a kid know how to do long division, 5 problems should let you know. Why 20?

Not at my son's high school. Some teachers weight and others don't. Many quizzes are equal to a test which is equal to homework. I'm not a teacher but to me a quiz or homework shouldn't be equal (and ISN'T equal) to a test.

But idk.
